Rain! story fun

2016年08月04日 Posted by Chika

Hello Mommies and Daddies,

In June/July we read the story Rain. In preschool we made our own umbrellas to use during our story skit, to shield us from the raincloud. This has been lots of fun and a great way for the younger children to join in. We have all had so much fun lifting up our umbrellas to shout “But not on me!”

It has been wonderful to hear from mommies how the children use their umbrellas at home, and enjoy reading the story.

In After school, the children are so eager to show off how well they can read the story. Every story time almost the whole class comes up to the front to read the story together. It is so wonderful to see how much fun everyone is having reading rain and adding their own *pitter patter* sounds and actions to the story.

We hope that mommies and daddies at home can also have the opportunity to see their children enjoy reading this story. We would like to thank mommies and daddies for supporting their children so much at home listening to the CTP stories, as we can really see everyone’s hard work in our lessons!

Having fun reading clocks!

Chika

Hello Mommies and Daddies,

We have finished our June/July Learning Centers, and we just have to share with you how much fun we had playing with clocks!

In Afterschool, we were playing What time is it, Analogue vs. Digital and Time Bingo, with great success! Not only are the children reading the clocks and understanding the different times in English, but they are having so much fun challenging themselves.

What Time Is It, has been lots of fun with the children rushing to find the right time on our giant clock to stand. They have been taking turns being the “teacher” and changing the teacher clock to tell their friends the time to go find. Being a part of the clock has really helped the children understand how to read the clock, and also how to ask about the time in English.

Analogue vs. Digital has had great results, with the children’s understanding of the time in English being more than we imagined. We started in June by focusing on just ‘o’clock’ times such as ‘7 o’clock, 9 o’clock’ etc. The children have really enjoyed having their own personal clocks to play with and show to their friends to help everyone in the group get the right time. We have since moved onto playing with other times such as “seven thirty/7:30” and “seven ten/7:10”. It has been great to see how excited and proud the children are to play at such an advanced level. We have even had some mommies say they didn’t realize their child could already read the clock so well!

What has been really great for us as teachers to see, is how the children are teaching each other. The children have been showing each other their clocks to help their friends change it to the right time, and helping explain to friends the more difficult concepts of “7:30” and “7:10”.

In July we started to play Time Bingo, where the children have their own bingo cards with various clock faces on them. Everyone has had so much fun playing time bingo, and the children’s ability to just listen to a teacher say the time in English, understand it and find it on their own bingo card really shows how much they absorb English when focusing on the playing aspect.

We hope that all the children in After school will be able to show you at home how they can tell the time in English, and we hope mommies and daddies can have fun playing time games too!
