January has started with a bang!!  Everyone has come back from winter vacation super motivated!  I am very pleased to see everyone again after the break!

The kids remember everything from before the holiday so much so they like to be the teacher.  We always encourage them to wash their hands and follow the directions, A Kun showed everyone what to do:

“Use soap!”

“Rub!”

“Rinse!”

“Dry your hands!”

“Can I smell your hands?”

“So clean!”

So of course after that all the children wanted to be the teacher and show us how to wash our hands!

“Wet your hands!”

After all that hand washing we were all really clean and ready to have lots of fun!!  Well done everyone!

This month we are talking about occupations and one of the occupations we are talking about is being a baker so today we started making bakers hats! The kids had a great time making them but they were a little tricky so a lot of the kids were asking the teachers “help me please,” especially when we had to help them stick them together to the right size for each child. After we made them we sang a song called pat-a-cake about making a cake which the kids sang really well!

Some of the kids loved their bakers hats so much that they decided to play “bakery” after lunch. A-kun came up to me because he wanted me to make a sign for the shop and asked in a nice big clear voice “James, can you make a sign please?” Good job A-kun.

先週の出来事ですが、とっても嬉しいことがありました♪

週2回来ているKちゃんは、一日だけご機嫌斜めでした。どうしたのかな？と思っていると、トイレで手を洗っている時に ” No snacks・・・” と言ったのです。

実はその日ママが風邪で、snackを作れなかったそうなのです。そういえばKちゃんは、先月のSelf  Introductionで、”No snacks make me angry.” と言っていたので、”Are you angry?　 No snacks make me angry.?”　と聞いたら目をキラキラさせながら”Yes, No snacks make me angry!”　と言い、手を洗ったあと、その言葉を得意気に他の先生にも伝えていました＾＾

2ヶ月かけて一生懸命練習してきた文章、ちゃんと覚えてくれていたのですね☆

自分のことを表現出来る文章って、とっても大切なんだなあと気づかせてくれた一瞬でした。皆さんも、ご家庭で是非Self Introductionの文章を練習してみて下さいね♪

Today was a very happy day in our afterschool class.

One of our students, Kchan, was the first person to finish reading her word and sentence book. She has been trying really hard and practicing a lot at home and now she is able to read 60 different animal names all by herself!

Great job Kchan! We are all very proud of you!

In keeping with the Christmas theme we are making a Christmas snack this week.  We make it using jam and bread and sugar!  Usually Candy canes have a mint flavor but we decided to go for sweet!!  Yummy yummy yummy!

A Christmas snack!

It is a very simple snack to make and the students get to use lots of different phrases: Bread/Jam/Sugar please.  Push (for the cookie cutter), Squeeze (for the jam) and Tap tap tap (for the sugar).  We also say “It’s Snowing” when we tap the sugar on.  The students are very good at making this snack and really do their best to say the phrases.  Some of the students like it so much they want to save it for an after lunch special treat!  I am so happy they like the snack!  It must taste good because they finish it VERY quickly so we had to move fast to get a photo!

This snack is so easy to make you could even make it at home, if you want to try it please ask me next time!! Happy eating everyone!
